BAUMBACH WINES
2006 Charbono
Type of
Grape: Charbono is a black grape of obscure origins although it is
classically a member of the Italian family of winegrapes. The Sierra
Foothills produce a particularly bold grape with intense, inky color, modest
tannins and dramatic aromas.
Description of Wine: Dark, opaque, purple color with a distinctive aroma of
Damson plums accented by nuances of tar, black pepper and old leather
characterize this ageable wine. A full-bodied
palate with pronounced but well integrated tannins give it a rich texture and long
finish. The soft tannins of Charbono (78%) are melded with the crisp acids of
Nebbiolo (17%) and the thick tannins of Aglianico (5%). In
California Charbono enjoys near cult status with red wine aficionados.
