BAUMBACH WINES
2005 Merlot
Type of grape:
This grape is a classic Bordeaux blending varietal which achieved peak
popularity in the 1970-1990s. Other more popular varietals, however, have
not diminished the very appealing character of this grape. Typically this grape
posses a dark color, modest acids and tannins. Fully ripened, it has a
great floral nose with a wonderful, soft mouth feel owing to the process of malo-lactic
fermentation.
Description of Wine: Merlot is widely grown with great success not
only in Napa Valley but also in the Sierra Foothill region. The flinty
soil of the Foothills lends depth of tannic character to the grape grown in this
terroir. This Merlot is married to it's Italian relative, Charbono to
blend the wonderful black cherry flavors of Charbono with the floral nose of
Merlot.
